Nicolas Sparks

If I had to chose a favorite author, I would pick Nicholas Sparks. I recently read two of his novels for Reader's Choice, and from those readings I want to continue following him. The novels I read were A Walk to Remember, and The Lucky One

Almost every Sparks' novel is a young love story, and there is always either a father, or mother figure missing from the protagonist's life. This is based off Spark's own childhood, he grew up without a father figure in his life and used that in his writing.  For example, in A Walk to Remember, both main characters, Jamie Sullivan and Landon Carter are missing a parent. Jamie lost her mom to cancer when she was younger, and Landon's father is a business man who's always traveling and was never there for Landon. In The Lucky One, Elizabeth, the woman in the picture Logan finds is divorced with a son. Even though he isn't the main character, there is still the essence of a missing parents in a child's life.

Spark's also always has the same setting for his novels, a small town in North Carolina. Now it's not always the same town, but they're always a small close community living by the water. In The Lucky One, they followed Logan from Iraq all the way to settling down in Hampton North Carolina where Elizabeth was from. In A Walk to Remember, Beaufort Nc. The NotebookThe Wedding, A Bend in the Road, Safe Haven, all in New Bern Nc.

  1. I would chose Nicholas Sparks too. He is one of my favorite authors. His stories are so cute and they are never a disappointment. Many people think his love stories are too mooshy but, I disagree. However, I tend to like the movies better then the books. I have never read the lucky one or a walk to remember but, I saw the movies and loved them. Also, I like how Nicholas Sparks involves other problems in the characters lives oppose to just the characters trying to maintain their relationship. He is honestly such a great author and I don't understand how people can not like his books.

  2. I too am a big Nicolas Sparks fan because his books are easy and fast reads. They are the typical girly "beach read" but keep my attention and interest. My favorite novel of his is definitely The Lucky One. I love stories about soldiers and romance, so this one was particularly entertaining to me. I heard that his novel The Notebook was a lot different than the movie. I absolutely love that movie, so I am interested to see how it can be so different. Maybe with all my free time this summer without summer reading ll be able to give it a try!
